Convolute wheels are designed for cleaning, deburring, smoothing, and polishing surfaces, ensuring they are perfectly prepared for final finishes. These wheels feature a nonwoven material infused with abrasive particles, mounted on a hub that connects to a core, making them compatible with bench and pedestal grinders. Their flexibility allows them to adapt to the workpiece's shape, minimizing material removal and preventing surface scratches, unlike bonded wheels. Suitable for both wet and dry applications, they excel in centerless grinding tasks. The effectiveness of a convolute wheel depends on the abrasive quality and wheel density (hardness). Softer wheels with less aggressive abrasives are ideal for finishing and polishing, whereas harder wheels with more aggressive abrasives are better suited for stripping and cutting. Each wheel is unidirectional, with an arrow marking the correct rotation direction.
