Threadlockers and retaining compounds are specialized adhesives designed to secure mechanical components against vibration and loosening. Threadlockers are used with threaded fasteners, whereas retaining compounds bond unthreaded parts. Metal threadlockers, the most prevalent type, are anaerobic, curing only in the absence of air and presence of metal ions to fill thread gaps securely. Plastic threadlockers, on the other hand, cure rapidly upon air exposure. Reusable variants for both metals and plastics offer flexibility, allowing for easy disassembly and reuse without hardening. Metal retaining compounds are thin, anaerobic adhesives that penetrate tightly fitted unthreaded assemblies, providing strong bonds and vibration resistance.
